Martha Sue Payne Samons, 92, of Malvern passed away peacefully at home on Monday, February 16, 2015. She was born in Harlow, Arkansas on July 9, 1922 to R.L. and Martha Anthony Payne. Her early life was at various locations in south central Arkansas before she moved to Malvern. She was proud to be a homemaker and co-owner of Samons store in downtown Malvern.
Survivors include her son, Michael (Lynda) Samons; her grandchildren, John Jenkins, Michael (Rachel) Jenkins, Martha (Jim) Hillen, Leigh Samons, and Geoffery (Margret) Samons; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents; her brothers and sisters, John S. Payne, H.E. Payne, Oliver Payne, Henry A. Payne, Evelyn M. Payne, Wilfred L. Payne, Mary Lea Spence, Sanford R. Payne and Ruth E. Spence; her husband, M.G. Samons; and her daughter, Evelyn Sue.
Her goals were to be a good daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She excelled at all these. Martha loved cooking for friends and family, and took great pride in her beautiful yard and garden.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, February 20, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Rockport Memorial Gardens with Rev. Lavon Post officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like to honor her love for children by dedicating her memorial contributions to the First United Methodist Church nursery.
